Description of Waterford Crystal Hospitality 10-Inch BowlThe rich cutting and distinctive scalloped top of the Hospitality Collection were inspired by an 18th Century custom. This large crystal bowl, perfect for a lovely fruit display on a formal table, is part of Waterford's Hospitality Collection. Waterford has been making renowned crystal pieces for more than 200 years, and the artisans draw upon centuries of tradition to find imagery for their designs. The Hospitality Collection is inspired by the pineapple, a traditional European symbol of luxury, feasting, and warm welcomes. A 16-rayed star is cut into the thick crystal underneath the base of the bowl. The bowl bells outward from the base, echoing a pineapple's shape, criss-crossed with diamond-shaped cuts. The rim of the bowl flares back out into a ten-petaled opening; it is decorated with vertical spray cuts resembling spiky pineapple leaves. The 10-inch Hospitality bowl is meant to be a commanding centerpiece, whether for mantel or table. Other matching display pieces in the Hospitality Collection include a six-inch pair of candlesticks, a trio of vases, and a matching smaller bowl. To preserve its clarity, wash the bowl with mild liquid soap and warm (not hot) water; do not wash in dishwasher as this may permanently etch surface of crystal. Certain water may leave a lime or mineral deposit on the crystal; if that happens, vinegar on a soft, nonabrasive cloth will help remove the deposit. Rinse with warm water and polish with a lint-free cloth. Do not store upside down on its rim or stand on its rim on a draining board. Crystal can focus sunlight into a concentrated beam that could potentially scorch rugs or furniture, so do not store or display in direct sunlight. The bowl measures 10 inches in diameter and stands 6 inches tall. --Garland Withers
